Actuarial Science Capstone Project
Objective: To enable learners to integrate the advanced quantitative, actuarial, financial and risk-management capabilities developed through their Level 7 Diploma and apply them to the investigation, modelling, analysis or evaluation of a significant actuarial, insurance, financial or risk-related problem.
Module:
- Capstone Project
The Capstone Project represents the remaining academic component of the MSc in Actuarial Science Top-Up pathway.
Learners identify an appropriate actuarial, financial or risk-related problem and develop a structured project that may involve actuarial modelling, insurance risk, pensions, mortality and longevity, financial risk, enterprise risk management, quantitative finance, predictive analytics, statistical modelling or another approved area relevant to actuarial science.
Depending on the nature of the project, learners may be expected to define a clear professional or research problem, review relevant literature and actuarial methodologies, identify and analyse appropriate data, select suitable quantitative techniques or models, evaluate results and present academically and professionally grounded conclusions.
The Capstone Project provides an opportunity to demonstrate the integration of prior Level 7 learning with advanced independent work in Actuarial Science.
Eligible prior Level 7 learning forms the academic basis for entry to the Top-Up pathway, subject to institutional verification and academic approval.
Upon successful completion of all academic and graduation requirements, learners receive two master’s-level qualifications:
- Master of Science in Actuarial Science — EuroAmerican Institute (EAI), Malta
- Master of Science with an Approved Specialisation — EIMT, Switzerland
Together, they form the SwissEU™ dual-qualification pathway, combining a nationally recognised European master’s qualification with a Swiss master’s qualification featuring an approved specialisation.
Learners may pursue an approved EIMT specialisation aligned with their professional background, previous Level 7 studies, academic interests and Capstone Project.
The final specialisation is subject to academic review and approval and may be refined to reflect the learner’s completed studies, professional competencies and applied project.
Learners may also complete the programme with a broader Master of Science qualification from EIMT, subject to applicable academic regulations.
Available EIMT specialisations may include:
- Actuarial Science
- Insurance and Risk Management
- Enterprise Risk Management
- Financial Risk Management
- Quantitative Finance
- Insurance Analytics
- Pensions and Retirement Management
- Financial Mathematics
- Applied Statistics
- Data Analytics
- Risk Analytics
- Investment and Wealth Management
- Financial Analytics
- Business Analytics
- Other approved actuarial, financial, insurance, risk or quantitative specialisations aligned with the learner’s academic and professional profile
The availability and final title of a specialisation remain subject to academic review and approval by EIMT.

The Swiss qualification within the SwissEU™ dual-qualification pathway is awarded by the European Institute of Management and Technology (EIMT), Switzerland, a private education institution established in the Canton of Zug.
EIMT combines a Swiss academic identity with an international quality-assurance profile focused on applied education, business, management and professional development.
Its institutional quality framework includes ACBSP accreditation candidacy, private external quality assurance, quality certification and international professional memberships.
EIMT has been granted candidacy status in the accreditation process of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), an international organisation specialising in the accreditation of business and business-related education programmes.
ACBSP candidacy represents a formal developmental stage in the accreditation process, involving institutional review, quality improvement and progression toward the applicable ACBSP standards.
Candidate status is not the same as accreditation. EIMT or its programmes should be described as ACBSP-accredited only if and when formal accreditation is subsequently granted by ACBSP.
For SwissEU™ learners, this adds an international business-education quality dimension to the Swiss component of the dual-qualification pathway.
In addition to its ACBSP candidacy, EIMT maintains a range of international quality credentials and professional affiliations supporting institutional development, digital learning and applied higher education.
These currently include:
- QAHE — Private, non-governmental institutional accreditation
- AQS / ISO/IEC 40180:2017 — Quality certification for technology-enhanced learning
- EURASHE — Institutional membership
- USDLA — Professional membership
- ATHEA — Institutional membership
These credentials represent different forms of external quality assurance, certification and professional engagement. They should not be interpreted as Swiss governmental accreditation or as automatically conferring recognition of EIMT qualifications by third parties.
Information relating to accreditation, recognition, qualification frameworks, memberships and quality assurance is provided for information and transparency purposes only.
Recognition, equivalency, professional use, further study, employment, professional registration, immigration-related use or acceptance of any qualification is not automatic and may vary according to the country, receiving institution, employer, professional body or competent authority.
Acceptance of a Level 7 Diploma for entry to the MSc in Actuarial Science Top-Up pathway is also subject to academic verification and approval by the relevant awarding institution.
SwissEU™, SIMI Swiss, EIMT and EAI do not guarantee any specific recognition, acceptance, equivalency, credit recognition, professional exemption or third-party outcome.
In particular, completion of the programme does not automatically confer membership, exemption, professional status or qualification as an actuary with any professional actuarial association or regulatory body.
Learners should verify the requirements applicable to their intended academic, professional or actuarial use of the qualification with the relevant receiving organisation, professional body or competent authority.

The MSc in Actuarial Science Top-Up is designed for learners who have already completed an eligible Level 7 Diploma covering substantial postgraduate-level learning in actuarial science, insurance, risk, finance, mathematics, statistics or a related quantitative field.
Rather than repeating a complete taught Master of Science in Actuarial Science curriculum, eligible learners progress to the remaining Capstone Project.
This enables recognised prior Level 7 learning and the Top-Up stage to form a coherent progression toward the complete Master of Science in Actuarial Science qualification, subject to academic verification and approval.
Applicants should hold an eligible Level 7 Diploma in Actuarial Science, Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Financial Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, Quantitative Finance or another relevant quantitative field.
The qualification must meet the applicable academic level, learning outcomes, credit and subject requirements for progression to the MSc in Actuarial Science Top-Up pathway.
Final acceptance remains subject to academic review and approval.
No.
The MSc in Actuarial Science Top-Up pathway is designed for eligible Level 7 Diploma holders whose previous postgraduate learning has been academically accepted toward the taught component of the Master of Science in Actuarial Science.
The remaining academic requirement is the Capstone Project.
The Capstone Project is an advanced independent project enabling learners to apply postgraduate actuarial, quantitative, financial and risk-management knowledge to a substantial professional or research problem.
Depending on the approved project, learners may investigate areas such as:
- Actuarial modelling;
- Insurance pricing and reserving;
- Mortality and longevity risk;
- Pensions and retirement systems;
- Enterprise risk management;
- Financial risk;
- Quantitative finance;
- Predictive analytics;
- Statistical modelling;
- Insurance analytics; or
- Other approved actuarial and quantitative topics.
The project demonstrates the learner’s ability to integrate quantitative knowledge, analytical thinking, independent inquiry and professional application at master’s level.
Yes.
Subject to academic approval, learners may develop a project based on a real actuarial, insurance, banking, investment, pensions, financial or risk-management issue arising from their professional environment.
For example, a learner could investigate claims behaviour, insurance pricing, portfolio risk, mortality patterns, pension liabilities, financial risk modelling or the application of predictive analytics within an insurance or financial institution.
Professional experience can therefore become the foundation for a structured master’s-level Capstone Project.
Yes.
The EIMT Master of Science may carry an approved specialisation aligned with the learner’s professional background, prior Level 7 learning, Capstone Project and intended area of professional development.
Examples may include:
- Actuarial Science;
- Insurance and Risk Management;
- Enterprise Risk Management;
- Financial Risk Management;
- Quantitative Finance;
- Insurance Analytics;
- Financial Mathematics;
- Applied Statistics;
- Data Analytics; and
- Other approved quantitative or financial fields.
The final specialisation remains subject to academic review and approval.
The Capstone Project may contribute significantly to defining the learner’s academic focus.
The final EIMT specialisation may take into account:
- Prior Level 7 studies;
- Professional experience;
- Existing quantitative or actuarial expertise;
- Academic interests; and
- The subject and outcomes of the Capstone Project.
The final specialisation remains subject to academic review and approval.
No.
A qualification carrying a Level 7 designation is not automatically accepted for MSc in Actuarial Science Top-Up entry.
The awarding institution may review factors including the awarding body, qualification level, credits, learning outcomes, mathematics and statistics content, actuarial or financial subject coverage and supporting academic evidence before confirming eligibility.
The programme is delivered online through Swiss Live Class Direct™, enabling learners to participate in Capstone Project development sessions and receive integrated academic, quantitative, research and learner support.
The programme is suitable for eligible Level 7 Diploma holders who wish to progress their existing postgraduate studies toward a complete Master of Science in Actuarial Science qualification.
It may be particularly relevant for professionals working in areas such as:
- Actuarial analysis;
- Life insurance;
- General insurance;
- Reinsurance;
- Pensions;
- Banking;
- Investment;
- Financial services;
- Enterprise risk management;
- Financial risk;
- Quantitative analysis;
- Statistics;
- Data analytics; and
- Other related quantitative professions.
It is designed for learners who have already completed substantial postgraduate-level study and therefore do not need to repeat an entire taught master’s curriculum.
Completion time depends on the learner’s Capstone Project progress, supervision, assessment completion and fulfilment of all applicable academic and graduation requirements.
As a Top-Up pathway, the programme focuses on the remaining Capstone Project after eligible Level 7 prior learning has been academically accepted.
